Happy belated holidays and all the very best for 2022. Even though COVID will still be around in its various disguises, hopefully, the number of restrictions will be reduced and we can go about living a more normal or familiar existence.
It was nice taking a break over the Christmas and the New Year’s period. It was probably the first one in over thirty years that I did not have to work (my regular job) on either Boxing Day or New Year's Day. Instead as the picture shows, I really enjoyed just sitting down, reading a book with a nice cup of coffee to keep me company. Thank goodness I got a bunch of coffee for Christmas and I now have a big supply that should last at least a couple of weeks.
During the break, I got my results back on some contemporary portrait images that I sent up for accreditation. In all, I sent up 15 images at $20 a shot, and for the written feedback it was an additional $5 - it adds up, so I only asked for written feedback on about 5 images. I sent a mixture of images so I could get an idea of how the judges mark the images and to get an idea of what they look for. Some of the images I thought were strong and some I sent up because I was unsure of a technique I used and I wanted to get feedback so I could get an idea on how I could improve or use a different technique. Of the 15 images I sent up, 9 got bronze medals with one being a ‘bronze with distinction’. The problem is you only get .5 of a point for bronze, and the target is 25 points before I become an "Associate" so I have to aim for Silver or Gold. A tough ask but worth going after.
This is one of my New Year goals and I have to start preparing now for the next opportunity to submit some contemporary portrait images. For this, I need some models, male or female, over 18 to under 90. If anyone is interested please get in touch with me using the 'Contact' page.
