Every type of photoshoot is different, and different photoshoots call for different outfits! A corporate photoshoot may require formal clothing, but an engagement photoshoot is often far more informal, and a sibling photoshoot is more casual still. For a portrait photoshoot most people like formal clothes but in practice, it doesn’t have to be. However, if you’re paying for professional photos you may as well dress up, at least a little bit, as opposed to what you might wear while you marathon on Netflix.
Photos and portraits are supposed to last for a long time. That’s why choosing timeless fashion is a good idea for your photoshoot outfits. You have probably asked yourself at some point, like I did, which clothing pieces could be considered timeless. The concept behind a timeless item of clothing is that it should be able to thrive through different periods of your life, and even your children’s lives, without needing to be replaced.
Whenever we talk about timeless fashion, we are also talking about quality over quantity. If you want clothes that can survive the test of time, spending on fast fashion brands, that generally carry lower-quality products, will not help you to achieve your goal. So what are the clothing pieces that are worth investing your money in?
Ten Clothing Pieces That Should Never be Out of Style
1 - Blue Jeans
2 - The Withe T-Shirt
3 - The white button-down shirt
4 - Tailored pants
5 - The jeans jacket
6 - The blazer
7 - The leather jacket
8 - The pencil skirt
9 - The midi dress
10 - The pencil dress
This timeless factor also contributes to more sustainable consumption, especially when buying less, which means that you’re able to invest in higher-quality products.
I am a bit of a sucker for the retro look and if you don’t have any retro-style outfits, you can buy clothes at second-hand markets or on specialized apps and websites. You can look at old magazines and photos to see what people wore and recreate a particular period in history. You can go with a pin-up style from the ’40s or a disco look from the ’70s – whatever is more fun for you. Check out the images in this blog for some of the retro-style that I have available - admittedly UK size 10 - which I purchased and were less than BBD$80 each.
I also like to see women in long flowy dresses. I think long flowy dresses for photoshoots are a great way to go!! A dress that can you can shimmy in and move around in will create more powerful and romantic images and flatters every female body. Not only that, but long flowy dresses help keep you cool and are highly fashionable! There is just something about a long flowy dress that photographs so beautifully, and you will have so much fun wearing one! Once you have a long flowy dress or fabric pieces such as chiffon or tulle, you have the ability to ‘toss’ the dress. Fabric tossing is a technique that creates a kind of image, it adds a gorgeous and glamorous movement to your images and it makes you look stunning.
